'Raven' Star John Cusack On Becoming Poe: There's An App For That

It goes without saying that in order to achieve an impressive onscreen performance, an actor must enter into the mind, body, and environment of the character he or she is portraying. While fictionalized characters require imagination and innovation, historical figures depend on research and character study. And few historical individuals are more dark, complex and mysterious than Edgar Allan Poe.

MTV News recently spoke with veteran thespian John Cusack, who portrays the legendary poet and storyteller in the upcoming film "The Raven", and asked what it takes to really enter into the world of such a puzzling man.

"It's like an app, right? Like on your phone, 'Go to Darkness.' You press the Poe app," Cusack joked.

"That's sort of how the psyche works, too, in a way," he clarified. "So, I think you just try to activate it and bring it to life."

So, how did Cusack bring it to life? On top of reading Poe's works and studied his biography, healso tried to tap into his emotions.

"If you think of movies like in a dream language, then there's kind of a dream logic to it," Cusack said. "And then you just follow the feelings. You use the feelings, I think that's what it is."

"The Raven" hits theaters April 27, so fans of Poe and his stories will soon discover how Cusack brings the horror-writer back to life.

Check out everything we've got on "The Raven."

SpaceX redefines 'fashionably late' as Dragon trip to the ISS is delayed again

Image

Just a week after NASA signed off on its launch, SpaceX has had to postpone the flight of the Dragon. It's yet another delay to NASA's efforts to supply the International Space Station using private spacecraft and reduce the US's dependence on Soyuz rockets. Taking to Twitter, founder Elon Musk said that the company needed to do more testing on the docking code for the capsule, while spokesperson Kirstin Brost Grantham told Space.com that the company needed more time to test and review the hardware. Pending NASA's approval, it'll begin its journey heavenward on the head of a Falcon 9 between May 3rd and May 7th. Given that the original mission was scheduled for November last year, they'll probably need to check the use-by dates on those space rations.

Albuquerque Short Sales - Real Estate Videos | Albuquerque Real ...

?Should I Buy an Albuquerque Short Sale House?? is the next video in my series of frequently asked questions for home buyers. Short sale homes are certainly not for everyone, but for some buyers who are looking for a good deal they may be a good option.

In this video I talk about what a short sale is, how it can take more time than a regular sale, and why someone might consider purchasing one.

?A lot of the homebuyers I work with want to know ?will I show them short sale homes? I say absolutely! Short sales are a little more involved and in case you don?t know what they are, a short sale is where the owner of the house is trying to sell for ?short? of what they owe the bank, so there?s a whole additional step in the process. In a regular sale, once you find the right home, you make an offer to the seller, the seller signs it and you move towards closing. With a short sale, the seller has to turn around, take that offer that they?ve already signed send it to the bank to make sure the bank will accept the terms and sell for ?short? of what?s owed. It adds time to the process, so if you have a lease that?s coming up at the end of the month and you need to be in (your new home) it?s probably not a good decision to go look at the short sale homes. However, if you have some flexibility, it can be a great way to find a good deal on a home. And if you?re looking in a challenging price range, or in a neighborhood that only has short sale homes available, I say go and take a look, you might find just the right home, be able to get it at a discount, and sometimes these days the banks are coming back even faster (than they used to).??

Please check back next Monday morning for the next in this series of unscripted, unrehearsed videos based upon frequently asked home buyer questions.
