'Dancing With The Stars' Elimination: Jack Wagner Eliminated

Dancing With The Stars Elimination

"Dancing with the Stars" elimination: Jack Wagner says goodbye

div>

It's always hard to say goodbye on "Dancing With the Stars," but it's especially difficult when someone goes home that really deserved to stay. That's exactly what happened this week as "Dancing With the Stars" bid adieu to actor Jack Wagner after last night's somewhat sloppy samba.

However, all that is about to change, as host Tom Bergeron revealed a shocking game changer that will definitely shape the rest the season in a major way.

Due to all the criticism the show has received for previous seasons, in which talented celebrity dancers were eliminated before, well, not-so-stellar but highly popular contestants, "Dancing With the Stars" has decided to switch things up this season.

For the next three weeks, the bottom two stars, as voted by the people at home, will have one final dance-off to prove their skills to the judges. From there, the judges decide which star will be going home.

Joining Wagner in the bottom were singer-songwriter Gavin DeGraw and the Empress of Soul, Gladys Knight. Wagner was eliminated after, what judge Len Goodman called, "his best dance to date."

Katherine Jenkins and Mark Ballas were the first couple saved, which really wasn't much of a surprise after the British beauty wowed the judges -- and the audience -- with her emotional waltz during last night's performances. Katherine and Mark were followed by Maria Menounos and partner Derek Hough, who were also safe from elimination after putting on quite a show for the judges with their racy, horizontal rumba.

Meanwhile last week's underdog, Roshon Fegan was surprisingly safe this week after paying tribute to his icon Michael Jackson with an eclectic, high-energy samba. The Disney star was in the bottom last week. It looks like Fegan and his partner Chelsie Hightower pulled through to dance another week.

William Levy and Cheryl Burke were also saved after their spicy -- and shirtless -- salsa. Joining them were former "Family Matters" star Jaleel White and Kym Johnson. White caught some flack for his tribute to Stefan Urquelle last night. The judges felt that his timing was off, but the public must have appreciated the "Family Matters" flashback.

"The View" co-host Sherri Shepherd was also safe, and she did some intense hair-whipping to celebrate. Willow Smith would be jealous.

Melissa Gilbert also managed to score enough votes to keep her safe, so she'll be able to dance another week with partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy. Rounding out the remaining stars who will dance next week are Donald Driver and his professional partner Peta Murgatroyd.

Get ready "Dancing With the Stars" fans because next week, rock 'n' roll is headed to the ballroom. Gladys Knight is already excited to honor her good friend, Tina Turner.

The Early Childhood Education System

Lakeside Connect is a blog purposed to dialogue about issues that impact our children and teenagers.?I have just completed a lengthy set of posts on child and adult trauma.?One thing I surfaced in those posts was the ACE study?which?describes?the correlations between adverse child events and many health, financial, emotional and relational problems. The ACE study?s documention reveals?amazing statistical implications, some we see occur from systems. Therefore, we next need to look at the powerful influence systems have on our children.

Toddler with big brown eyes

Due to the number of single parents who are in the workplace and the number of families with both parents working, the need for childcare has soared.

As we examine the most powerful influences in the lives of our children, we will be drawn to several important systems.?The first and most?obvious is the individual family system.?Another is the American educational system, with at least 12 years of consistent impact.?However, in the past few decades, another significant force has earned prominance in the U.S., the Early Childhood Education (ECE)?system.

Millions of children are placed in early childhood centers that can be both state-funded and privately owned.? The ECE centers range from exceptional and well-equipped to those that are underfunded and poorly staffed.?Due to the number of single parents who are in the workplace and the number of families with both parents working, the need for childcare has soared.?While some?parents can find family members who will help, most?are forced to rely on community early childhood centers for the care of their children from infancy until kindergarten-age.

baby yawning

In light of the research we now have regarding the brain, physical, emotional and relational development that occurs from ages one-to-four, the Early Childhood Education Center's caregivers play an impressive role in our children?s growth and development.

These ECE centers act as the children?s second homes. They spend most of their day?at the ECE?being taught, nurtured and cared for by early childhood professionals who?become major influencers in their lives.?Particularly in light of the research we now have regarding the brain, physical, emotional and relational development that occurs from ages?one-to-four, the caregivers for these children play an impressive role in our children?s?growth and development.

The ECE community in Philadelphia

Lakeside has a strong relationship with our ECE community in Philadelphia, to provide professional development training for ECE staff.?We have been extremely fortunate to have United Way of Southeastern Pennsylvania and Independence Blue Cross become sponsors?of a large movement of training and support?to hundreds of leaders and staff members of ECE Centers in the Greater Philadelphia Area.?As many children are influenced by these professionals, we feel it is important that these staff members and leaders have a forum for receiving training, exchanging dialogue and?experiencing nurture as well.

Toddler girl peeking over chair

Trauma-informed care is just one example of issues facing our early childhood educators.

While diverse?educational standards exist for school teachers, we have not yet?ascribed national standards for our early childhood professionals.?As I converse with?ECE centers in our area, I?hear caregivers express?several?frustrations. They understand and seek training and additional support to work effectively with?groups of children from?varied backgrounds.?

Also consider the number of?inner-city children who have experienced trauma who are placed in ECE centers.?These children desperately need caregivers who are trauma-informed and trauma-competent, who?know how and where to get help.?Trauma-informed care is just one?example of issues facing our early childhood educators.

There is much to talk about in this growing field of care for our children.?Since early life is critically valuable to?our children, I will plan the next few posts?to dialogue on?this important topic.?Thanks for reading Lakeside Connect.?I appreciate your time and effort to understand the information that I believe is so vital to our children and their families.

Stain your Floors with Stain Concrete

With a stain concrete floor you don't have to hang expensive art work on the wall. The floor says it all! Decorative concrete has now become a popular choice for residential, commercial, and industrial floorings. Besides the fact that it looks fantastic, it also helps you to save energy. Concrete is a porous material and hence quickly absorbs heat or cold. It stores this and releases it slowly thereby controlling the temperature for a longer period.

How do you stain concrete: You can stain your concrete through paint, use pigmented concrete, or acid stain the concrete. Acid staining is preferred as it is permanent and gives out a translucent and spotted finish that looks attractive. Concrete soaks up the acid and reacts with the minerals within to give out the desired color. Since this discoloring isn't superficial, the color does not peel or flake, nor does it fade easily. But if you are going to use this to stain your patio, it is likely to be exposed to direct sunlight; hence make sure that you buy acid that is guaranteed by the manufacturer not to fade. You can even combine it with other techniques like engraving, sand blasting, etching, and stenciling to create a dramatic effect.

Costs: The cost of stain concreting your floor depends on several factors like the size of the floor, surface preparation requirements, and the complexity of the job. If you're looking for a basic design with a single coat application and minimum surface preparation, the job wouldn't cost more than $2-4 per square foot. But if is a complex job and involves faux finishing with multiple colors and designs, the price can be as high as $15. But these costs do not really matter when considering factors like longevity, and replacement (when compared to wood and ceramic tile). As earlier stated, the colors do not fade easily and even if they do, touch up is inexpensive. Besides, contractors reduce rates when the total square footage of the job increases.

DIY? There are several stores that sell DIY Acid Staining Kits. The internet too is full of videos and articles that teach you to acid stain concrete. But unless you are experienced or are creative enough, it's best to leave this job to an experienced professional. They can create the most wondrous designs and create faux flooring effects effortlessly. Stains can be applied by using various tools like spray bottles, sponges, rags, eyedroppers, and even feathers. The job allows for artistic expression, and certainly needs one who is creative.

Online Videos and What It Can Do To Your Small Scale Business ...

In the last four-five years, the whole concept of marketing strategies for businesses has changed its scheme of things. Many new techniques have sprung up which have led even supposedly small scale businesses to flourish while others have gone horribly wrong! One such new and tested marketing strategy which is getting more popular day by day is that of online video production. These days all the brands have got their presence in the web and make use of the online video marketing to sell their goods. Even small businesses are now waking up to this idea and uploading their corporate video all over the internet. Needless to say, the video production companies have got even greater days ahead.

With the advent of the internet, the age old grip of the television over the masses has started to loosen. More and more people now prefer to browse through the internet rather than spend hours watching mundane shows on TV. So it goes beyond saying that the internet is a gold mine for all the corporate brands to invest. On a recent survey it was revealed that more than 83 percent of the people who use the internet are familiar with online advertisements and corporate videos. So therefore it is obvious that their opinions and brand choices are somewhat governed by them. And for this reason only corporate brands are now investing millions on video production and hiring the best video production companies so that they can connect to the audience. But small scale businesses are not far behind as well and with more people getting used to making online videos on their own. And the results are also quite evident as in the last few days many small businesses have done surprisingly well catapulted by their perfect online marketing strategies.

Making an online marketing video is not that difficult a task either. If your business is small and just in its nascent stages then you can make your own video blog or corporate video rather than spending a fortune on video production companies. For starters you need a decent camera and the selection depends on you only. You can go for the handy webcams if you want it cheap or can buy the latest slick models from the market. The equipment selection is also contingent on the use of the camera and varies from nothing to expensive set-ups. For example, if your speaker is static then a table shall do otherwise a moving trolley or at least a tri-pod might be needed. Additionally, a good mix of lighting and the background is required. Most online blogs use the classic white background for their production with the standard lighting system of three lights in the three focusing directions. That is both cheap and manageable for most small businesses with lesser number of employees.

The content is the key to connect with the audience and so is the speaker. He has to be able to lure the audience into what he says. It has been found out that most of the people lose interest in a video in the first minute itself, sometimes because of the boring content and sometimes because of the futile gimmicks. So it is better if you keep you video short and prim and at the same time get your message across. Lastly, post production is a major task and the editing should be done with great care. With the proper online video, your small scale business can reach new heights.

Justices meet Friday to vote on health care case

WASHINGTON (AP) ? While the rest of us have to wait until June, the justices of the Supreme Court will know the likely outcome of the historic health care case by the time they go home this weekend.

After months of anticipation, thousands of pages of briefs and more than six hours of arguments, the justices will vote on the fate of President Barack Obama's health care overhaul in under an hour Friday morning. They will meet in a wood-paneled conference room on the court's main floor. No one else will be present.

In the weeks after this meeting, individual votes can change. Even who wins can change, as the justices read each other's draft opinions and dissents.

But Friday's vote, which each justice probably will record and many will keep for posterity, will be followed soon after by the assignment of a single justice to write a majority opinion, or in a case this complex, perhaps two or more justices to tackle different issues. That's where the hard work begins, with the clock ticking toward the end of the court's work in early summer.

The late William Rehnquist, who was chief justice for nearly 19 years, has written that the court's conference "is not a bull session in which off-the-cuff reactions are traded." Instead, he said, votes are cast, one by one in order of seniority.

The Friday conference also is not a debate, says Brian Fitzpatrick, a Vanderbilt University law professor who worked for Justice Antonin Scalia 10 years ago. There will be plenty of time for the back-and-forth in dueling opinions that could follow.

"There's not a whole lot of give and take at the conference. They say, 'This is how I'm going to vote' and give a few sentences," Fitzpatrick said.

It will be the first time the justices gather as a group to discuss the case. Even they do not always know what the others are thinking when they enter the conference room adjacent to Chief Justice John Roberts' office.

By custom, they shake hands. Then Roberts will take his seat at the head of a rectangular table. Scalia, the longest serving among them, will be at the other end. The other seven justices also sit according to seniority, the four most junior on one side across from the other three.

"They generally find out how the votes line up at the conference," said Orin Kerr, a George Washington University law professor who worked for Justice Anthony Kennedy nine years ago.

The uncertainty may be especially pronounced in this case, where the views of Roberts and Kennedy are likely to decide the outcome, Kerr said in an interview Thursday. "I don't think anyone knows. I'm not sure Justice Kennedy knows."

No one's vote counts more than the others', but because they speak in order of seniority, it will become clear fairly quickly what will become of the health care overhaul.

That's because Roberts speaks first, followed by Scalia, then Kennedy. If the three men hold a common view, the Obama health care overhaul probably is history. If they don't, it probably survives.

If Roberts is in the majority, he will assign the main opinion, and in a case of this importance, he may well write it himself, several former law clerks said. If Roberts is a dissenter, the senior justice in the majority assigns the opinion.

The court won't issue its ruling in a case until drafts of majority opinions and any dissents have circulated among the justices, changes have been suggested and either accepted or rejected.

"These justices aren't locked in. Minds have changed during the drafting process and minds have changed after opinions have been circulated," said Rick Garnett, associate dean and professor of law at Notre Dame Law School who worked for Rehnquist 15 years ago.

In one celebrated case decided in 1992, Rehnquist initially assigned Kennedy to write a majority opinion for five justices allowing prayers at public school graduations. In the end, Kennedy ended up writing the opinion for a different five-justice majority striking down the graduation prayers. According to several accounts, Kennedy simply changed his mind during the writing process.

No one will know precisely when decisions on particular cases will be coming, until perhaps Roberts ends a court session in late June by announcing the next meeting will be the last until October. Then it's a safe bet that whatever hasn't been decided will be on the last day. And decisions in the biggest cases very often aren't announced until that last day of the term.

Supreme Court opinions rarely find their way to the public before they are read in the marble courtroom, although the court inadvertently posted opinions and orders on its website about a half hour too soon in December.

The last apparent security breach occurred more than 30 years ago when Tim O'Brien, then a reporter for ABC News, informed viewers that the court planned to issue a particular opinion the following day. Chief Justice Warren Burger accused an employee in the printing shop of tipping O'Brien and had the employee transferred to a different job.

Sometimes, though, the justices themselves manage to let people know something big is coming.

On May 17, 1954, the attorney general, secretary of state and Nina Warren, wife of the chief justice, were in the courtroom when Earl Warren read the historic, unanimous opinion in Brown v. Board of Education outlawing school segregation.

Google to open online tablet store: report

Google is planning to open an online store to sell tablet PCs directly to consumers, according to a report in The Wall Street Journal on Thursday.

The online store would offer tablets made by Samsung Electronics and Asustek Computer based on Google's Android software, according to the report, which cited anonymous sources and which Reuters was not able to confirm. Google declined to comment.

Google briefly sold a specially-designed Android smartphone - the Nexus One - directly to consumers in 2010, but closed the store after four months saying it had not lived up to expectations.

Google now relies on retail and carrier partners to sell Android smartphones made by a variety of handset makers and Android has become the world's No. 1 smartphone operating system, ahead of iPhone-maker Apple.

But Apple still dominates the market for touch-screen tablet computers with its two-year old iPad. Amazon.com's $199 Kindle Fire tablet is based on open-source Android computer code, but the device features a customized interface that does not use many Google services.

Google may co-brand some of the tablets sold through the store and has considered subsidizing the cost of future tablets to make them more competitive with the Kindle Fire, according to the Journal report. It is unclear when Google plans to open the store.
