Question by Cindy: Please Help AP Physics Homework =( my teacher never interprets anything!?
So I am doing a graph on projectile motion and the graph when primarily plotted is parabolic and then the next step is just to take the x merits and square them while y remains constant?..then i drew another graph and it was linear graph and I have no reason why just squaring the x merits gave me a linear graph? any hints or comments? THANKSSS SOOO MUCH

You have alertd the nature of the graph you are plotting. I imagine you had consequentlymething like this to start with
x. . . . . .1 . . . . . . . 2. . . . . . . 3 . . . . . . 4. . . . . .5
y. . . . . .1 . . . . . . . 4 . . . . . . .9 . . . . . .16 . . . . 25
But your second graph is of
x. . . . . .1 . . . . . . . 4. . . . . . . 9 . . . . . .16. . . . .25
y. . . . . .1 . . . . . . . 4 . . . . . . .9 . . . . . .16 . . . . 25
In other words, the x and y merits are the same. This is just the same graph as y = x, which is a linear graph.
(What I don?t understand is what this has to do with projectile motion!)
